Special waste

The following special types of waste must not be placed in carts at the waste collection point.

Dry cell batteries, fluorescent lamps and mercury-containing solid waste (class-S waste):

Collected by ESC 4 times a year. A survey for disposal request will be announced in advance of collection, follow the instruction there.

Lead batteries, LiPo cell packs, paint cans, sprays, lighters:

Collected by ESC once a year. A survey for disposal request will be announced in advance of collection, follow the instruction there.

PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyl):

Designated as waste subject to special control, PCBs can be disposed of only by designated disposal companies. Each faculty/graduate school shall strictly store PCB waste under supervision of the Environmental Section, Facilities Department until its outsourced disposal is completed. However, PCB-containing non-carbon paper and stabilizers shall be kept by the ESC.

Chlorofluorocarbons:

Collected by ESC once a year. A survey for disposal request will be announced in advance of collection, follow the instruction there.

Televisions, refrigerators/freezers, washing machines, air-conditioners, LCD/plasma displays, clothes dryers:

Collected by the Contracts Section, Finance Department for recycling. A survey for disposal request will be announced in advance of collection, follow the instruction there.

PCs:

Collected by the Contracts Section, Finance Department for recycling or reuse. Follow the instruction in the announcement from your faculty/school.

Large-size waste:

Items bigger than 30 cm × 30 cm are collected by the Contracts Section, Finance Department. Follow the instruction in the announcement from your faculty/school.
